Since  my little Scruffy passed a few weeks back I have been contemplating drawing him,
I just have,nt had the heart to be honest……………………..I have not drawn him in quiet a long time, of course I have been meaning to……….. To say I have hundreds of photographs of  my little lovefy would be an understatement and I have spent the last few weeks mulling over lots of his pictures.

Often times when people ask me about taking photos of their pets, I say, try to get a photo of the face you love….. you know one were you think… oh he looks so cute in that pic. Thats what I have been looking for…….. In the end I decided on about ten. Of course I don't have time to do ten, all in one go, so this will be an on going project. For now……. I have decided to do just three or four over the next few months…… and I thought it would be nice to show you some more of how I work. So I'm gonna continue this blog , the more artistic side of it I will share on Facebook.

I have decided to start with a big portrait in pencil. But after thats finished, I am also going to experiment, using artistic licence and
some different mediums such as pastels, oil and watercolour, who knows where my little Scruff will bring me, Im kinda open to anything. So a few days back I  started…… I have begun with quiet a large pencil portrait in my usual style of my Scruff, I will show updates of the portrait on my Facebook page as I go, I am working from a few photographs, as I often do with pets that have passed. As you can see I have edited them, to get just the portrait shot. The great thing about these shots is that they were taken outside and they are clear…….. I may at some point do some full body drawings of Scruffy, But for now I think it will be mainly portraits.  He is  nearly in his full winter coat here, so lots of hair and totally un-groomed. Scruffy had unusual colouring and you can see his funny little crooked nose in some of these shots. But  I love his face in this first shot and thats the look I am going for. Some of you will recognise it as the…. is there even a slight chance that you have food look……….In truth he was well used to posing and in the end I did not need to use food to get a good shot of Scruffy he would just look at the camera until he got bored  ha ha :-) #scruffydogart
